Rio Recap: Thompson cruises, Phelps wins more gold

Elaine Thompson took out the women's 100 metres in convincing fashion at the Rio Olympics on Saturday.
- While that was the Jamaican's first Games medal, Michael Phelps won his 23rd gold as he helped the United States clinch the men's 4x100m medley relay on the final day of swimming.
- Monica Puig secured Puerto Rico's first ever gold medal, surprisingly winning the women's singles gold. Andy Murray and
Juan Martin del Potro are into the men's decider.
- Neymar helped Brazil into the semi-finals of the men's football, scoring in a 2-0 win over Colombia.
- Justin Rose is on the verge of history, holding a one-stroke lead heading into the final round of the golf.
- Mo Farah fell during the 10,000m, but he still managed to defend his title in fine fashion.

UNSUNG HEROES
Great Britain's women kept up their record-breaking run to win gold in the
team pursuit.
The quartet of Katie Archibald, Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand broke their own world record with a time of four minutes and 10.236 seconds.
The United States won silver but were never likely to challenge GB, who had also set a world mark in the heats.
MEDAL WATCH
USA have surged clear atop the medal tally, now sitting with 24 golds and 61 in total. Saturday was a milestone day that included their 1,000th gold in Olympic history.
COMING UP – All eyes on Bolt
Usain Bolt will be out to defend his title in the men's 100 metre final – the must-watch event of the Games. The men's golf tournament finishes, while the men's sprint finals take place in the velodrome.

Puig became a national hero with her shock gold, beating German Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber 6-4 4-6 6-1 in the decider.
